Operation Cycle


The four-stroke cycle, which is the most common in automotive engines, includes:

Intake Stroke: The intake valve opens while the exhaust valve remains closed. As the piston moves downward, it draws in a fresh mixture of air and fuel.

Compression Stroke: Both valves remain closed as the piston ascends, compressing the air-fuel mixture. This compression increases the temperature and pressure, making the subsequent ignition more efficient.

Power Stroke: Just before top dead center (TDC), the spark plug ignites the compressed mixture, causing a rapid expansion of hot gases that push the piston down. This stroke generates the power output.

Exhaust Stroke: The exhaust valve opens, and the piston rises again, pushing out the spent gases from the previous combustion event.

3. Power Stroke 


The spark plug ignites the compressed fuel-air mixture, causing an explosion. This releases a burst of energy that forces the piston downward. 4. Exhaust Stroke


After the power stroke, the piston moves upward again, expelling the waste gases from combustion through the exhaust valve. The cycle then repeats itself.
